Manifesting thanks to Mark Zuckerberg for creating the forum which has changed my personal life and that of several other million people is (for me) something long overdue. Allow me to share these personal thoughts in this thank you letter in the hope that I echo the sentiments of many others who would take the time in appreciating the creator of Facebook.
Dear Mark,
The Facebook application you created has changed my life and redefined the world's concept of social networking. You have made it possible for over 550 million people to share pieces of content like web links, news stories, wall posts, blogs, photos, personal and messages.
Because of you, its now easier to stay active in the lives of my friends and family regardless of their distance. Its easy to post pictures and tag people in notes and even status updates. Relatives living halfway across the world can access the information I put on my profile and share their comments. Personal proof of this is the fact that I have remained in touch with my friends and family in Dubai and the Philippines--even if I am in California. Facebook has allowed me to be in touch with everyone--almost like having them in a room next to mine!
While certainly yours isnt the first social networking site, yours is now the accepted and undisputed "de-facto standard"--and has proven itself by far the very best. So, for keeping me closer to my friends and family, Mark Zuckerberg, you deserve all accolades, this thank you letter, and thoughts Im sending your way.
But let me tell you that my gratitude isnt just reserved to the fact that its kept me connected. I say thanks also because of who Ive been able to bridge the geographical gap with--the answer being just about everybody.
My son Richie and his family in Dubai, my two sons and daughter, and even my two grandsons in Baguio City all have accounts. My nieces and nephews constantly update their status about what is going on in their lives, almost as often as my schoolmates (in numerous locations worldwide) from several decades ago share photos on my wall-- as we revel in the joy of reminiscing our days in college. Indeed, Facebook is now an integral part of our daily lives.
Allow me to end by sharing the joy I personally felt when you were named as Time Magazine's Person of the Year for 2010. I shared this with all my friends on my personal FB wall the day it came out. It is definitely your time, Mark!
Although you might never read this one (as you are probably inundated with more than one thank you letter everyday) this day is now complete for me as I finish off this piece.
